53,490 Workers Laid Off Through August 2026, West Java Records the Highest Number

JAKARTA – A total of 53,490 workers reported being laid off between January and August 2026. West Java recorded the highest number of reported layoffs, with 10,880 workers, accounting for around 20.34% of the national total.

The figures come from the Job Loss Security (JKP) system operated by the Ministry of Manpower. The data should be understood as the number of workers who reported layoffs through the JKP system, rather than the total number of workers who lost their jobs across Indonesia.

Banten recorded the second-highest number, with 6,303 reported layoffs. It was followed by East Java with 5,400 workers, Central Java with 4,769, and Jakarta with 3,900.

By month, June recorded the highest number of reports, with 9,028 workers. May followed with 9,019 reports, while April recorded 8,498 and February 7,913.

March saw 7,187 reported layoffs, followed by January with 5,967 and July with 4,897. August recorded 981 reports.

The Ministry of Manpower said the figures remain dynamic. The numbers may change because workers who have been laid off have up to six months from the date of termination to report their employment status and submit a claim through the JKP system.

The incoming data also undergoes a deduplication process. Records with the same Population Identification Number (NIK) and closely matching termination dates are reviewed to prevent the same worker from being counted more than once.

The ministry also noted that the statistics do not include workers who leave their jobs voluntarily, retire, become permanently disabled, or die.

Therefore, the figure of 53,490 represents reported layoffs recorded in the JKP system between January and August 2026. It should not be interpreted as a complete picture of all layoffs that occurred across Indonesia during the same period.
