JAKARTA — Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has called on state officials, particularly those in the Indonesian Military (TNI), National Police (Polri), and the Attorney General’s Office, to engage in self-reflection and remember that the authority they hold comes from the people. He made the remarks while inaugurating five dams in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) on Friday.
In his speech, Prabowo urged government officials to evaluate themselves as part of efforts to improve governance. He specifically reminded members of the TNI, Polri, and the Attorney General’s Office that they are public servants and must never forget the source of the public trust placed in them.
“Your stars come from the people. Your shoes come from the people. Your hats come from the people. Never forget that,” Prabowo said. He emphasized that the ranks, uniforms, and facilities used by state officials are funded by taxpayers and must be matched with integrity, responsibility, and dedication to public service.
Prabowo also said that his administration has achieved significant progress in a relatively short period despite facing numerous challenges, including resistance from corrupt individuals. He reaffirmed his commitment to combating corruption while stressing that all law enforcement efforts must remain within the framework of due process and the rule of law.
Concluding his remarks, the president emphasized that justice must be applied fairly and equally to everyone, regardless of their position or influence. According to Prabowo, the law should not only apply to ordinary citizens but must also be enforced impartially against anyone who violates it.
