Typhoon Huan Hits Japan, Hundreds of Flights Canceled

JAKARTA — Japan issued a warning over the impact of Typhoon Huan on Monday (September 21, 2026). Hundreds of flights were canceled due to the severe weather conditions.
According to AFP, a total of 275 flights were canceled. Japan Airlines canceled 120 domestic flights and 15 international flights. Meanwhile, All Nippon Airways canceled 140 domestic flights.
Heavy Rain and Strong Winds
The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) said Typhoon Huan was bringing heavy rainfall. The storm was approaching Tokyo and could potentially trigger landslides.
The JMA forecast that total rainfall through Tuesday could exceed Japan’s average monthly rainfall for September. The conditions could potentially result in record-breaking rainfall.
The JMA also reported that the typhoon’s wind speeds had reached 144 kilometers per hour.
Train Services and Events Also Affected
The storm has also disrupted ground transportation. Railway operators in Tokyo and surrounding areas suspended services on several routes.
In addition, around 4,000 households in Chiba, an area near Tokyo, experienced power outages.
Several events were also affected. Tokyo Game Show, one of the world’s largest video game trade shows, which was scheduled to begin on Thursday, was canceled on Monday.
A large outdoor music festival and a baseball game scheduled to take place in Chiba were also canceled due to the severe weather conditions.
