JAKARTA — The government is giving employees of government institutions, public bodies, and private companies greater flexibility in their work arrangements on August 18, 2026. The measure is intended to support activities commemorating and giving meaning to the 81st anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence Day.
The appeal is contained in a letter signed by Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, who also serves as Chair of the National Committee for the Commemoration of National Days and the Reception of Heads of State, Foreign Governments and Leaders of International Organizations.
Through the letter, the government encourages all members of society to actively participate in Independence Day celebrations. The commemoration is expected to be carried out in various ways without reducing national productivity.
The government has asked leaders of government institutions, public bodies, and private companies to provide greater flexibility in work arrangements for their employees on August 18, 2026.
However, the flexibility is not absolute. Its implementation is expected to take into account the conditions, workload, and operational requirements of each organization.
For government institutions, public bodies, and private companies that provide direct services to the public, employee arrangements must be made proportionally to ensure that public services continue to operate optimally.
The provision covers essential services, including healthcare, banking, telecommunications, energy, security, public order, transportation, and other vital services.
The letter is also addressed to leaders of non-ministerial government agencies, non-structural government institutions, governors, regents and mayors, as well as the leaders of state-owned enterprises (SOEs), regionally owned enterprises (ROEs), and private companies across Indonesia.
