BSI Aceh Customer Base Reaches 4.3 Million, Equivalent to 76 Percent of Aceh’s Population

Banda Aceh – The number of customers of PT Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) Regional Aceh reached 4.3 million as of July 2026, marking a 31.7 percent increase from the previous period.

The figure is notable when compared with Aceh’s population. Based on the 2025 Intercensal Population Survey (SUPAS), Aceh had a population of approximately 5.631 million people. This means the number of BSI customers is nominally equivalent to around 76.4 percent of the province’s total population.

However, the comparison does not mean that 76.4 percent of Aceh’s population are BSI customers. The number of customers recorded by a bank does not necessarily represent unique individuals, as one person may hold multiple accounts or banking products.

Even so, the figure highlights BSI’s strong penetration in Aceh, particularly given the province’s distinctive position in Indonesia, where Islamic law plays an important role in public and social life.

BSI Aceh Regional CEO Imsak Ramadhan said the growth in customers was supported by the strengthening of the bank’s technology and digital capabilities, including improvements to its information technology infrastructure and the expansion of its electronic banking channels.

“This achievement was supported by positive performance and strengthened by investments in technology and digital capabilities, including IT optimization and the expansion of e-channels to reach more people,” Imsak said in Banda Aceh on Friday (September 4, 2026).

He said growing public preference for Islamic banking had also contributed to BSI’s business growth in Aceh.

To expand access to its services, BSI currently operates more than 138 outlets across Aceh. The bank also has 20,822 BSI Agents and more than 56,567 QRIS merchants.

In terms of financial intermediation, BSI Regional Aceh recorded third-party funds (DPK) of Rp22.3 trillion, while financing distribution reached Rp26.1 trillion.

BSI also recorded more than 422,000 Hajj Savings customers in Aceh, reinforcing the bank’s role in providing financial services for Hajj and Umrah-related needs.

In the gold business, BSI Regional Aceh manages 106 kilograms of gold as part of its bullion business. The figure increased 246 percent year-on-year. Meanwhile, its gold installment and gold pawn businesses grew 50.51 percent year-on-year.

At the national level, BSI posted net profit of Rp4.16 trillion through June 2026, an 11 percent increase year-on-year. Third-party funds grew 22 percent to Rp393 trillion, while total assets reached Rp464.5 trillion.

The growth in BSI’s customer base in Aceh underscores the size of the province’s Islamic banking market. With a population of around 5.63 million, Aceh remains one of Indonesia’s strongest markets for Sharia-compliant financial services.
