Jakarta – The income of Indonesia’s Finance Minister has come under renewed public attention following a change in the position under President Prabowo Subianto’s administration. The position is now held by Suahasil Nazara, replacing Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa.
As a state official, the Finance Minister receives a basic salary and various allowances regulated under Indonesian laws and regulations.
Under the applicable provisions, the basic salary for Indonesian ministers is set at Rp5 million per month. In addition to the basic salary, ministers receive a monthly position allowance of Rp13.608 million.
Based solely on the basic salary and position allowance, a minister receives a total of Rp18.608 million per month.
However, a minister’s income is not limited to these two components. Under certain circumstances, state officials may also receive other facilities and financial benefits in accordance with applicable regulations.
The salary and allowance structure has been in place for ministers for many years. Any additional financial benefits must have a legal basis and comply with government regulations.
In addition to their monthly income, ministers are also entitled to a religious holiday allowance, known as THR, and a 13th-month salary under applicable regulations. In 2026, the government regulated the payment of THR and the 13th-month salary through Government Regulation No. 9 of 2026.
The regulation stipulates that THR and the 13th-month salary for state officials and other government personnel are provided in accordance with the applicable provisions and the state’s fiscal capacity.
With responsibility for managing fiscal policy, the state budget, government revenues and public finances, the Finance Minister is one of the most strategically important positions in the Indonesian government.
The change in Finance Minister in September 2026 has once again put the position in the spotlight, particularly over the challenges of maintaining the credibility of the state budget and the government’s fiscal policy.
