DPR Approves Nuzran Joher as Ombudsman Chief

Jakarta — The House of Representatives (DPR) has approved Nuzran Joher as Chairman of the Ombudsman of the Republic of Indonesia for the 2026–2031 term, replacing Hery Susanto.

The approval was granted during a DPR plenary session at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Tuesday (18/8).

Nuzran was previously one of nine members of the Ombudsman for the 2026–2031 term selected by the DPR through a fit-and-proper test. In the initial composition, Hery Susanto served as chairman, while Nuzran served as a member.

The leadership change came after Hery Susanto became embroiled in an alleged bribery case being handled by the Attorney General’s Office. The vacant position was subsequently filled through a replacement and appointment process.

Earlier, the DPR had also approved Wahidah Suaib as an Ombudsman member through an Inter-Time Replacement (PAW) mechanism to replace Hery. The decision was made during a plenary session on July 21, 2026.

With Nuzran Joher’s approval as chairman, the leadership structure of the Ombudsman for the 2026–2031 term has now changed from the composition initially determined by the DPR earlier this year.

The Ombudsman of the Republic of Indonesia is a state institution tasked with overseeing the delivery of public services and receiving public complaints regarding alleged maladministration.

Nuzran’s appointment comes amid public attention surrounding the legal case involving the Ombudsman’s previous chairman. The new leadership is expected to ensure the continuity of public service oversight while strengthening public trust in the institution.
