UGM Alumni Arief Prasetyo Handoyo Appointed President Director of Pertamina EP

JAKARTA — Arief Prasetyo Handoyo has been appointed President Director of PT Pertamina EP. The appointment was announced through a post by UGM Alumni congratulating Arief on his new position at one of Pertamina’s key companies in the upstream oil and gas sector.

Arief is an alumnus of the Faculty of Engineering at Universitas Gadjah Mada, class of 1992. The UGM Geological Engineering alumni archive lists Arief Prasetyo Handoyo as a student from the 1992 cohort.

The appointment also marks Arief’s return to Pertamina EP after a long career in Pertamina’s upstream oil and gas business.

According to his profile in PT Elnusa Tbk’s annual report, Arief previously held several positions at PT Pertamina EP, including Senior Manager of Asset 1 Exploitation from 2019 to 2021. Prior to that, he served as Manager of Prabumulih & Limau Exploitation and held several technical positions within the company.

After leaving Pertamina EP, Arief continued his career at PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia. From 2021 to 2023, he served as Vice President of Development & Drilling. In this role, he was involved in drilling development activities and efforts to increase oil and gas production across Pertamina’s operating areas.

One of the activities involving Arief was the drilling of the B2102 well at the Bunyu Field in North Kalimantan in late 2021. At the time, he was serving as PHI’s Vice President of Development and Drilling and attended the well spudding ceremony alongside the management of Pertamina Hulu Indonesia and Pertamina EP.

Arief’s career subsequently moved to PT Elnusa Tbk. On January 17, 2024, he was appointed Director of Business Development at Elnusa. He remained listed in the company’s management structure through 2026.

In his capacity as Elnusa’s Director of Business Development, Arief was also involved in discussions on investment prospects and business development in the upstream oil and gas services sector. In June 2026, he said Elnusa’s strategic investments were being directed toward strengthening its upstream oil and gas business through 2026.

His extensive experience now brings him back to Pertamina EP, this time with significantly greater responsibility as President Director.

Arief’s appointment is notable given his career trajectory, which has remained closely connected to the upstream oil and gas sector. His experience spans field operations, development and drilling, as well as corporate business development.

With this background, Arief’s challenges at Pertamina EP will extend beyond maintaining oil and gas production. He will also be expected to improve operational efficiency, accelerate field development, and strengthen Pertamina EP’s contribution to Indonesia’s national oil and gas production targets.
