JAKARTA — Commission XI of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) has selected Destry Damayanti as the governor-elect of Bank Indonesia (BI) for the 2026-2031 term. The decision was made during an internal Commission XI meeting on Thursday (August 27, 2026), following a series of fit and proper tests.
Commission XI Chairman Mukhamad Misbakhun said the decision was reached through consensus.
“Destry Damayanti has been designated as Governor of Bank Indonesia for the 2026-2031 term,” Misbakhun said at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday (August 27, 2026).
In addition to Destry, Commission XI also approved Aida S. Budiman as Senior Deputy Governor of BI and Solikin M. Juhro as Deputy Governor of BI for the 2026-2031 term.
The decision has not yet constituted final approval. The results of the Commission XI meeting will be submitted to a DPR plenary session scheduled for Tuesday, September 1, 2026. Following that process, the appointment of BI’s new leadership will proceed to the next stage in accordance with the applicable mechanism.
Destry was the sole candidate for BI governor nominated by President Prabowo Subianto through a presidential letter. She previously served as Senior Deputy Governor of BI and assumed the duties of acting BI governor after Perry Warjiyo resigned from the position in July 2026.
During her fit and proper test on Wednesday (August 26, 2026), Destry presented her leadership vision under the concept of “Red and White Synergy.” She emphasized the importance of coordination with the government to support economic growth, while stressing that such synergy would not compromise Bank Indonesia’s independence.
If approved by the DPR plenary session, Destry will become the first woman to lead Bank Indonesia. Her previous experience in the economic and financial sectors includes serving as BI’s Senior Deputy Governor, a member of the Board of Commissioners of the Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS), as well as an economist in the banking and financial markets sectors.
With Commission XI’s decision, the process of selecting new Bank Indonesia leadership at the commission level has been completed. The next stage will be approval at the DPR plenary session on September 1.
