Political Party Landscape Shifts, Gerindra and PDIP Remain on Top

JAKARTA — Gerindra remains the party with the highest electability in the August 2026 Tempo Data Science survey. If an election were held when the survey was conducted, 20 percent of respondents said they would vote for Gerindra, followed by PDIP at 16 percent and Golkar at 10 percent.

Among the other parties, PKB received 8 percent, NasDem 5 percent, Demokrat 5 percent, PKS 4 percent, PAN 3 percent, PPP 2 percent, and PSI 2 percent. Meanwhile, 24 percent of respondents either kept their choice confidential, did not know, or did not answer.

The findings indicate that the top three parties remain relatively consistent with the political map of the 2024 election. However, there have been changes in the level of support compared with the parties respondents said they voted for in the previous election.

In the 2024 election, 23 percent of respondents said they had voted for Gerindra. That figure fell to 20 percent when they were asked which party they would choose if an election were held today.

PDIP also declined from 18 percent to 16 percent. In contrast, Golkar increased from 8 percent to 10 percent. Demokrat, PAN, PPP, and PSI each gained around one percentage point, while PKB, NasDem, and PKS remained relatively unchanged.

The trend since December 2025 shows the shifts between parties more clearly. Gerindra recorded the largest decline, while PDIP, Golkar, PKB, NasDem, and Demokrat showed increases in the latest period. In the August 2026 survey, Gerindra stood at 20 percent, PDIP at 16 percent, Golkar at 10 percent, PKB at 8 percent, NasDem at 5 percent, and Demokrat at 5 percent.

Voters Remain Relatively Loyal

Despite changes in party preferences, a majority of voters for several parties continue to support the same party they chose in the 2024 election.

PKB recorded the highest voter retention, with 78 percent of respondents who said they voted for PKB in 2024 still choosing the party today. PDIP followed at 76 percent and Golkar at 75 percent.

PAN recorded a retention rate of 71 percent, followed by Demokrat at 67 percent, Gerindra at 62 percent, PSI at 60 percent, PKS at 59 percent, and NasDem at 57 percent.

At the same time, there have been shifts in support between parties. One of the most notable movements involves voters who chose PSI in 2024. Some 28 percent of those voters said they would vote for Golkar if the election were held today.

What Drives Party Choice?

The survey also examined the reasons behind voters’ party preferences. Gerindra and Demokrat were relatively stronger on the appeal of political figures, while PDIP and Golkar stood out more in terms of voter loyalty or habitual voting.

Support from national figures, however, does not automatically translate into a party vote. Some 52 percent of respondents said they would consider supporting a party endorsed by a national figure they liked.

However, only 21 percent said they would strongly consider the party, while 31 percent said they would consider it but were not necessarily certain to vote for it.

With 24 percent of respondents still undecided, keeping their preference private, unaware of their choice, or declining to answer, the party-electability landscape remains open to change. Gerindra continues to lead, followed by PDIP and Golkar, while shifts in voter support indicate that the political map has not yet fully settled.
