Textile SOE Yet to Materialize, Danantara: We Will Establish a New Company

JAKARTA — The plan to establish a state-owned enterprise (SOE) that would lead Indonesia’s textile industry has yet to materialize as of September 2026. The government had previously proposed establishing the state-owned company in January 2026.
During a limited meeting on the development of the textile industry held again on Tuesday (September 22, 2026), there had been no significant progress regarding the establishment of the textile SOE.
CEO of the Indonesia’s Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Management Agency (BPI Danantara) Rosan Roeslani said Danantara would instead establish a new company that could serve as a parent company to develop existing textile companies.
“We are indeed going to establish a new company. The new company can be used to develop the existing companies, and we can also partner with existing textile companies,” Rosan said at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta, as quoted by detikcom on Tuesday (September 22, 2026).
Rosan said the new company would also be developed in cooperation with existing textile companies. The government is opening opportunities for existing textile companies to become partners.
In addition, the government plans to initiate an integrated industrial area specifically for the textile sector.
“For the integrated one, we will initiate it, integrated within one area,” Rosan said.
Danantara will also assess existing textile companies that are considered to have potential for further development. The development will focus, among other things, on technology and the renewal of machinery.
“We will also look at several textile companies that have the potential to be developed, particularly in terms of their machinery and technology. We are open to that,” Rosan said.
However, the government has yet to set a timeline for the establishment of the textile SOE.
“Not yet,” Rosan said when asked about the target date for its establishment.
With this latest direction, Danantara plans to establish a new company to support the development of the textile industry while also opening opportunities for cooperation with existing textile companies.
