Signals of a Cabinet Reshuffle This Afternoon at the Palace?

JAKARTA – Speculation over a reshuffle of the Red and White Cabinet is gaining momentum again. President Prabowo Subianto is reportedly considering a cabinet reshuffle on Monday afternoon, September 28, 2026, although the Palace has yet to make any official announcement regarding such an agenda.

The speculation comes after Prabowo previously opened the possibility of evaluating and reshuffling his cabinet ahead of his administration’s second anniversary.

In a statement on September 16, Prabowo said evaluations of government officials are conducted continuously and that two years is considered sufficient time for ministers to demonstrate their capabilities and performance.

Reshuffle Signals Gain Momentum

If the reshuffle takes place this afternoon, it would come only about two weeks after the previous cabinet change. On September 14, 2026, Prabowo appointed Suahasil Nazara as Minister of Finance, replacing Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa.

The relatively short interval has fueled speculation that the cabinet evaluation may not have ended with the change at the Finance Ministry.

The speculation has also emerged amid public calls for a government evaluation. A Poltracking survey conducted from August 14–20, 2026, found that 51.9 percent of respondents believed a cabinet reshuffle was necessary, while 27.9 percent said it was not. The largest reason cited was ministers’ performance, which 55.5 percent of respondents considered unsatisfactory.

Government Performance Also Under Scrutiny

Several surveys have also indicated declining public satisfaction with government performance.

A Tempo Data Science survey conducted from July 31 to August 11, 2026, found that 37 percent of respondents were satisfied with the performance of the Prabowo-Gibran administration. The figure was down from 75 percent in December 2025 and 58 percent in March 2026.

Meanwhile, a Poltracking survey recorded cabinet performance satisfaction at 47 percent in August 2026, down from 67 percent in May and 49 percent in July.

If the Reshuffle Happens This Afternoon

If a reshuffle is officially announced this afternoon, the decision would come amid an evaluation of government performance as the Prabowo-Gibran administration approaches its second year in office.

The question, then, would not only be who enters and leaves the cabinet, but also whether the changes are intended to improve the performance of ministries that have drawn public scrutiny.

For now, all names and positions circulating remain speculative. The public is waiting to see whether the Palace will actually announce a reshuffle of the Red and White Cabinet this afternoon.
