Suyudi Ario Seto Approved as National Police Chief, DPR Endorses Replacement of Listyo Sigit

JAKARTA – The House of Representatives (DPR) has officially approved Commissioner General Suyudi Ario Seto as the new Chief of the Indonesian National Police (Kapolri), replacing General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.

The approval was granted during the eighth plenary session of the DPR’s First Session of the 2026–2027 Parliamentary Year on Thursday, October 1, 2026.

DPR Speaker Puan Maharani asked lawmakers to approve Suyudi’s appointment as National Police Chief. The members present subsequently gave their approval, which was formally confirmed with the striking of the gavel.

Before the matter was brought to the plenary session, Suyudi underwent a fit-and-proper test before Commission III of the DPR, which oversees legal and security affairs. Commission III subsequently approved Suyudi by consensus as the candidate for National Police Chief.

Suyudi was the sole candidate nominated by President Prabowo Subianto to replace Listyo Sigit. The President’s letter concerning the proposed dismissal and appointment of the National Police Chief was received by the DPR on September 30, 2026.

During his presentation before Commission III, Suyudi presented his vision under the theme “The National Police Together with the People.”

With the DPR’s approval, the parliamentary stage of the transition of the National Police leadership has been completed. Puan Maharani had previously stated that Suyudi was expected to be inaugurated by President Prabowo after the Zuhur prayer on Thursday.

The plenary session also approved the Commission III report concerning the proposed honorable dismissal of Listyo Sigit Prabowo from his position as National Police Chief.

Suyudi previously served as Head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN). He has also held several senior positions within the Indonesian National Police, including Chief of the Banten Regional Police and Deputy Chief of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police.

Following the DPR’s approval, Suyudi is now set to be formally inaugurated by President Prabowo Subianto as the new Chief of the Indonesian National Police, succeeding Listyo Sigit Prabowo.
