Jakarta – Attorney General ST Burhanuddin emphasized that his meeting with National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo at the Attorney General’s Office on Monday (July 13) was not related to the legal controversy involving former Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus), Febrie Adriansyah.
The meeting was described as a routine agenda aimed at strengthening coordination between the Attorney General’s Office and the National Police.
The approximately one-hour meeting took place amid public attention over the handling of several alleged corruption and money laundering (TPPU) cases, including those involving PT Asabri, PT PLN, and a subsidiary of PT Krakatau Steel. In those cases, the National Police’s Corruption Eradication Corps (Kortas Tipikor) has named Febrie Adriansyah and a private individual identified by the initials DR as suspects.
Responding to various speculations, Burhanuddin dismissed the assumption that the meeting was triggered by developments in those cases.
“Don’t think that this is because of what happened recently. This is a regular meeting that we routinely hold, and we always discuss how to make improvements going forward. In fact, this is not a new program, but an existing one,” Burhanuddin said.
He stated that many people still perceive the Attorney General’s Office and the National Police as two institutions that are often at odds. According to him, such a perception does not reflect the relationship between the two institutions, which have continued to build synergy in law enforcement.
Burhanuddin emphasized that coordination between the Attorney General’s Office and the National Police has continued to function well in order to improve the effectiveness of case handling and maintain public trust in law enforcement agencies.
Meanwhile, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo stated that his meeting with Attorney General ST Burhanuddin served as a momentum to further strengthen the synergy between the National Police and the Attorney General’s Office as part of the criminal justice system.
According to Sigit, both institutions are committed to enhancing coordination so that law enforcement processes can be carried out more effectively and in an integrated manner.
“We want to strengthen and reinforce the relationship between the Attorney General’s Office and the National Police as a unified law enforcement body within the criminal justice system,” Sigit said.
In addition to discussing stronger coordination, the National Police and the Attorney General’s Office also agreed to enhance cooperation in preparing for the implementation of the new Criminal Code (KUHP). One of the initiatives being prepared is an educational exchange program for prosecutors and National Police investigators.
Through the program, it is expected that inter-agency coordination will become even stronger, enabling every stage of law enforcement to be carried out more effectively and in harmony within the framework of the criminal justice system.
