Indonesia’s seventh President, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), paid his respects at the residence of the late Rachmat Gobel, a member of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) from the NasDem Party, in Tebet, South Jakarta, on Friday.
According to reporters at the scene, Jokowi arrived at around 10:45 a.m. WIB, wearing a white shirt and a black peci cap. He went directly inside the family residence to offer his condolences to the bereaved family.
After paying his respects, Jokowi remembered Rachmat Gobel as a trusted colleague who had served in his administration during the early years of his presidency. He described the late politician as a dedicated public servant with a strong work ethic.
“Mr. Rachmat Gobel was a good minister, a hardworking minister,” Jokowi said.
Rachmat Gobel served as Indonesia’s Minister of Trade during the early period of Jokowi’s first administration, holding the position from 2014 to 2015.
Earlier, Rachmat Gobel passed away in Jakarta in the early hours of Friday, July 10, 2026. His passing was confirmed by Willy Aditya, Chairman of the NasDem Party’s Central Executive Board (DPP).
“Our deepest condolences. Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. H. Rachmat Gobel passed away on Friday, July 10, 2026, at 3:20 a.m. WIB in Jakarta,” Willy said.
