JAKARTA – PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) has demonstrated its strength amid the dynamics of the global coal industry. As of the first half of 2026, the state-owned mining company recorded coal sales of 21.1 million tons, supported by production of 19.45 million tons and optimal inventory management.
PTBA President Director Bambang Ismawan said the achievement serves as an important foundation for the company to continue creating added value for all stakeholders while maintaining business sustainability amid industry challenges.
Of the total sales, 10.77 million tons, or around 51%, were absorbed by the domestic market. Meanwhile, 10.33 million tons, or 49%, were sold to overseas markets. Export sales even grew by around 5% compared to the same period last year, driven by strong demand from Vietnam, Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, and Thailand.
Although exports continue to increase, PTBA emphasized that domestic demand remains its priority. As of the first half of 2026, coal supplies to the PLN Group reached 7.78 million tons, while the realization of the Domestic Market Obligation (DMO) had reached around 55% of total production, well above the government’s minimum requirement of 25%.
On the operational side, PTBA transported 18.15 million tons of coal through June 2026, with 17.47 million tons of that volume carried by railway. The company also continues to implement a selective mining strategy and accelerate the development of logistics infrastructure to improve efficiency and strengthen competitiveness.
Entering the second half of 2026, PTBA stated that it will continue to strengthen operational reliability, maintain cost efficiency, optimize both domestic and export markets, and continue strategic projects to support sustainable growth amid fluctuations in the global coal market.
