JAKARTA — Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka holds a notable position among potential young political figures ahead of the 2029 election. The August 2026 Tempo Data Science survey recorded Gibran’s presidential electability at 6 percent.
When respondents were presented with a list of names, Gibran ranked fourth, behind Dedi Mulyadi at 42 percent, Prabowo Subianto at 15 percent, and Anies Baswedan at 10 percent. Ganjar Pranowo and Sherly Tjoanda followed Gibran, each with 4 percent.
Gibran’s position was stronger when respondents were asked which young figures they considered suitable to lead Indonesia in the future. He ranked first with 21 percent, narrowly ahead of Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), who received 20 percent.
Although 42 percent of respondents had not yet made a choice in this category, Gibran’s position indicates that he is already among the leading choices when the public considers young figures for future national leadership.
Support for Gibran also reflects several positive perceptions. Among respondents who identified Gibran as a favored figure, 57 percent viewed him as someone who is close to and listens to the people. Another 35 percent described him as young and capable of bringing change, while 16 percent viewed him as decisive.
Gibran’s potential support can also be seen in the second-choice preferences of his supporters. If Gibran were not to run, 26 percent of his supporters said they would switch to Dedi Mulyadi, followed by 17 percent who would choose Prabowo Subianto and 10 percent who would choose Ganjar Pranowo.
Thus, although Gibran’s current presidential electability stands at 6 percent, the survey places him in a prominent position among young political figures and indicates room for him to expand his support ahead of the 2029 election.
