Jakarta – Telkomsel has said it will comply with the government’s policy on protecting customers’ unused internet data. The statement came after the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) issued a regulation prohibiting cellular operators from simply expiring internet data that customers have already paid for.
The policy is stipulated in Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Circular Letter No. 4 of 2026. It follows Constitutional Court (MK) Decision No. 273/PUU-XXIII/2025, which requires telecommunications service providers to offer options allowing customers to continue using their remaining data.
Telkomsel Vice President of Corporate Communications and Social Responsibility Abdullah Fahmi said the company respects and will comply with the Constitutional Court ruling as well as the government’s policy.
“Telkomsel complies with and adheres to the Constitutional Court ruling, and supports the government’s policy—in this case, the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs—which aims to strengthen customer protection,” Fahmi said, as quoted by CNBC Indonesia.
He said the policy is in line with Telkomsel’s commitment to providing services that offer added value and meet customers’ needs.
Telkomsel Reviews Product Adjustments
Despite its commitment to comply, Telkomsel has not yet provided final details on how the new rules will be implemented across all of its products and services.
Fahmi said Telkomsel is conducting a comprehensive review of its existing products and service lines. The process is aimed at ensuring that all of the company’s offerings comply with the new government regulations.
Customer protection and transparent communication are also among the company’s priorities as it adjusts its services to the new requirements.
Telkomsel said customers need to receive clear and easily understandable information about the services they use.
Implementation to Be Coordinated with Government
For the technical implementation of the policy, Telkomsel said it will continue coordinating with Komdigi and other relevant parties.
The coordination comes as the new provisions on protecting customers’ unused internet data take effect. The government has previously emphasized that data customers have already paid for constitutes a consumer right and should not simply be forfeited.
Under the new policy, operators are required to provide service options that allow customers to protect and continue using their unused data.
Telkomsel said the adjustment process is now part of its broader review of products and services, with the technical implementation to be aligned with government regulations and the results of coordination with the regulator.
