JAKARTA — Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has responded to the nomination of Destry Damayanti as the sole candidate for Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI).
Destry’s nomination was submitted through a Presidential Letter (Surpres) to the House of Representatives (DPR) on Monday, August 10, 2026.
Purbaya said he had no issue with Destry’s nomination to lead the central bank. According to him, Destry, who currently serves as Senior Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia, has sufficient experience to carry out the responsibilities of central bank governor.
“That’s good. She has sufficient experience, and our experience is quite close,” Purbaya said when met at his office on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.
Purbaya said he had known Destry since he served as Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS). At the time, Destry served as an ex officio representative of the central bank.
According to Purbaya, their working relationship and coordination had been good.
“When I was Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of LPS, she was an ex officio representative of the central bank. So I think it’s good. We usually coordinate and work together well, so there’s no problem,” he said.
Support for Destry’s nomination was also expressed by Financial Services Authority (OJK) Board of Commissioners Chairwoman Friderica Widyasari Dewi.
Friderica said she supported the government’s decision to nominate Destry as the sole candidate for Governor of Bank Indonesia. According to her, Destry is a figure well known to OJK and has a strong track record in the financial sector.
Destry’s nomination as the sole candidate for Governor of Bank Indonesia has now been submitted to the House of Representatives through the Presidential Letter delivered by the government on August 10, 2026.
