Jakarta – Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor Perry Warjiyo has resigned from his position. The announcement was made during a press conference at the Bank Indonesia headquarters in Jakarta on Monday (July 27, 2026).
It was stated that Perry decided to step down due to health reasons.
Following his resignation, the position of Governor of Bank Indonesia will be assumed by Senior Deputy Governor Destry Damayanti.
The leadership transition comes just days after Perry chaired the Board of Governors Meeting (RDG), which decided to maintain the BI-Rate at 5.75% as part of efforts to preserve the stability of the rupiah amid growing global economic uncertainty.
As of the time this report was written, no further details had been provided regarding Perry Warjiyo’s health condition or the leadership transition process at Bank Indonesia.
However, the change in leadership at the central bank is expected to draw significant attention from market participants, as it takes place amid challenges related to exchange rate stability, foreign capital flows, and global economic dynamics.
Perry Warjiyo has led Bank Indonesia since 2018 and was reappointed for a second term in 2023. During his tenure, the central bank faced a range of challenges, from the post-pandemic economic recovery to global economic turbulence that affected the country’s monetary policy.
