JAKARTA — The Jakarta Provincial Government is urging the Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Management Agency (Danantara) to help finance the continuation of the Jakarta LRT project, part of a mass-transit development program initiated during the presidency of Joko Widodo (Jokowi).
Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno said Danantara’s involvement was needed because the development of Jakarta’s public transportation system serves interests beyond those of the provincial government alone.
Rano linked the initiative to Jokowi’s view that Jakarta is not merely a city belonging to its residents, but also has significance for Indonesia as a whole.
“As the President also said, Jakarta does not belong only to Jakarta; Jakarta belongs to Indonesia,” Rano Karno said, as quoted by Metro TV.
According to Rano, this perspective is part of the reason the Jakarta Provincial Government is inviting Danantara to participate in financing the LRT’s further development.
“So, perhaps in this context and opportunity, we are inviting Danantara, as the state-owned enterprise entity that has now been consolidated into one major force,” he said.
One of the expansion plans mentioned by Rano is extending the LRT line from Manggarai to Dukuh Atas. The extension is expected to improve connectivity and increase the number of people using public transportation.
Rano stressed that the objective of the development is not merely to increase passenger numbers, but to make public transportation a preferred option for people in Jakarta.
“The most obvious one is the extension from Manggarai to Dukuh Atas,” Rano said.
