Karachi, Pakistan – A Boeing 737 cargo aircraft disappeared from radar while en route to Karachi on Tuesday night, raising fears that it may have crashed into the Arabian Sea after experiencing technical difficulties.
The aircraft, operated by K2 Airways, departed from Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, carrying five crew members. According to Pakistan’s aviation authorities, the crew reported navigation system problems shortly before contact was lost.
Air traffic controllers attempted to guide the aircraft after the distress report. However, radar data showed the plane suddenly losing altitude, making a sharp turn, and then disappearing from radar approximately three minutes later. Its last known position was about 287 kilometers west of Karachi.
Flight tracking data from Flightradar24 indicated the aircraft descended nearly 5,000 feet in less than a minute before climbing around 6,000 feet within 30 seconds. It then entered a steep descent from an altitude of approximately 36,550 feet. The final recorded data placed the aircraft at around 1,100 feet with an extremely high rate of descent, suggesting a possible crash.
Pakistani authorities have launched a large-scale search and rescue operation in the Arabian Sea involving multiple agencies. As of now, the aircraft has not been located, and the fate of the five crew members remains unknown.
The Boeing 737 was originally manufactured in 1999 as a passenger aircraft before being converted into a freighter in 2012. The exact cause of the incident is under investigation.
