Jakarta — Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has asked Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto for assistance in resolving the investment problems faced by the Federal Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation Authority (FELDA) in Indonesia.
The request concerns FELDA’s investment in plantation company Eagle High Plantations Tbk (EHP), which is said to have resulted in losses of around RM2.5 billion, or approximately Rp9.7 trillion based on an assumed exchange rate of Rp3,900 per ringgit.
Anwar reportedly sent a letter to Prabowo seeking the Indonesian government’s attention to the investment issue. He conveyed the matter during a meeting with FELDA management and officials in Bangi, Selangor, on August 21, 2026.
“If the losses are not addressed, they could amount to RM2.5 billion ($780 million)… while what we may eventually recover could be only RM200 million… this is one example,” Anwar said, as reported by Berita Harian Malaysia.
FELDA Investment in Indonesia
FELDA previously invested around RM2.3 billion in 2016 in plantation company EHP.
The investment issue has now become one of the cases highlighted by the Malaysian government as it seeks to address various investment losses involving the institution.
Anwar asked for Prabowo’s assistance because the investment is located in Indonesia. The move indicates that resolving FELDA’s investment issue involves not only internal decisions in Malaysia but also requires communication with the Indonesian government.
The request also comes as the Malaysian government reviews several investment issues involving the state institution, including losses reportedly amounting to billions of ringgit.
