Pahala Mansury Appointed Managing Director of Danantara

JAKARTA – The Indonesia Investment Authority Daya Anagata Nusantara (BPI Danantara) has reshuffled its management team. Former Deputy Foreign Minister Pahala Nugraha Mansury has been appointed Managing Director for Global Relations and Governance.

Pahala’s appointment became known on Monday, July 6, 2026, through a post by the official account of the University of Indonesia Alumni Association (ILUNI UI). In the post, ILUNI UI congratulated Pahala on his new role at Danantara.

“ILUNI UI congratulates Bang Pahala Mansury (FEB class of 1989) on his new responsibility as Managing Director of Global Relations and Governance at the Indonesia Investment Authority Daya Anagata Nusantara (BPI Danantara),” ILUNI UI wrote.

Pahala replaces Mohammad Al-Arief, who had held the position since Danantara was established on February 24, 2025. The change is part of a reshuffle within the investment management institution.

In Danantara’s latest organizational structure, Pahala is listed as Managing Director of Global Relations & Communications. He joins several other executives in the Managing Directors’ ranks.

Pahala Mansury’s Career Background

Pahala is no stranger to Indonesia’s financial and state-owned enterprise sectors. He began his career as a change management consultant at Andersen Consulting Jakarta, where he worked until 1997. While pursuing his master’s degree in New York, he also worked part-time at an investment management company.

In 1999, Pahala joined Booz Allen Hamilton as a Senior Consultant before becoming a Project Leader at Boston Consulting Group (BCG). He is also a CFA Charterholder from the CFA Institute.

His banking career began in 2003 when he joined Bank Mandiri. He subsequently held several strategic positions, including Group Head of Corporate Development, Change Management Office, Accounting, and Economic Research, as well as Executive Vice President Coordinator for Finance & Strategy and Chief Financial Officer.

From 2011 to 2012, he served as Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer of Bank Mandiri. He later became Managing Director of Finance & Strategy until 2015 and Director of Treasury & Markets at Bank Mandiri until 2017.

Pahala then continued his career at several state-owned companies. In April 2017, he was appointed President Director of Garuda Indonesia. A year later, he was appointed Finance Director of Pertamina.

In 2019, Pahala became President Director of Bank Tabungan Negara (BTN). A year later, President Joko Widodo appointed him Deputy Minister of State-Owned Enterprises.

Pahala returned to government in July 2023 after being appointed Deputy Foreign Minister. In that role, he was involved in strengthening economic diplomacy and investment cooperation between Indonesia and other countries.
