Jakarta – PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE), Pertamina’s upstream oil and gas subholding, has appointed Sunaryanto as its new President Director, replacing Awang Lazuardi. The leadership change took effect on July 7, 2026, as part of a broader management restructuring. The company also introduced a new position of Vice President Director, which will be held by Virano G. Nasution.
Sunaryanto brings decades of experience in Indonesia’s upstream oil and gas industry. Before assuming his new role, he served as President Director of PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI) from 2024 to 2026. He previously held the position of Vice President of Drilling & Well Intervention at Pertamina Hulu Energi, overseeing drilling operations and well intervention programs to support the country’s oil and gas production targets.
His career also includes serving as Acting General Manager of PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam and Executive Vice President of Operations for East Kalimantan. Prior to joining Pertamina, Sunaryanto spent many years with Total E&P Indonesie, where he played a key role in operations at the Mahakam Block before its management was transferred to Pertamina.
The board reshuffle is part of Pertamina’s efforts to strengthen leadership within its upstream business. The new management is expected to enhance operational performance, sustain national oil and gas production, and support Indonesia’s long-term energy security goals.
